Four different seed mixes were planted on the Melichar Broad Acres Farm in the Town of Port Washington. The goal of this research is to identify better shade tolerant cover crop plant species. This would ultimately mean there could be a field full of growing cover crop plants after the corn is harvested.
The four seed mixes are as follows:
Summer Mix - Iron and Clay Cowpeas, annual rye grass, buckwheat and daikon radish
Plot #1
Plot #2
Winter Mix - Annual rye grass, hairy vetch, kale and medium red clover
Plot #1
Plot #2
Ozaukee Mix #1 - Annual rye grass, medium red clover, dwarf essex rapeseed and kale
Plot #1
Plot #2
Ozaukee Mix #2 - Annual ryegrass, medium red clover, hairy vetch, dwarf essex rapeseed and kale
Plot #1
Plot #2
